Children’s Advanced Baking Skills Program

This program is for children 5 years of age and older and by invitation only.  The classes are generally conducted once per week and there is no cost to you or your child to participate in them.  The classes are kept intentionally small, averaging 8 to 10 children each week, so that I can provide close attention to what the students are doing in your kitchen.  There are currently 20 families registered in the program.  Once your child is in the program he or she can stay there until they decide to leave.  It is not mandatory that your child attend each week in order to stay in the program.  I realize that the children have many interests in life.  All I ask is that when your child agrees that it is time for a break, you need to let me know, so that I can open that spot to any child on the waiting list.  If at a later date your child wants to return to the program, I will do everything I can to make room for them or they will return to the waiting list and wait their turn again.

I am a strong believer in the fact that baking is a science and I try to work as much science as I can into the classes.  I also am a strong believer in the need for good reading and math skills for a baker.  I encourage the children to make notes of their baking activity, so that they have something to review when they decide to make a recipe again on their own. 

In order to be invited to the class your child must have a sincere interest in improving his or her baking skills. There are a few rules and I ask your help in making sure your child follows.  I would really appreciate your time explaining the rules to your child before they start the program.  They need to be prepared before the class starts and I ask that you help your child be prompt to the class each week. The children must be patient and polite to each other during the classes.  These classes are meant to be a learning experience and part of that experience is what to do when they make a mistake.  Everyone takes a turn sooner or later having something go wrong.
